He tapped a green glass float with a shell, and a clear ring jumped. Cold glass met his knuckle, and the quick sound ran along the planks. He brushed a small chime made from a tangle of shells, and it rattled. He steadied the brass bell and pressed a cork block against its rim. With light pressure from his thumb, the bright ring dipped into a hum. The bell did not resist the soft cork, and its shake settled into warmth. Gwen paused by the rail. "Hear that low note hiding under it?" she said. Wyatt said, "I hear it now."
