English 原文
A moth tapped the booth’s glass, a dry tick that reached Ruby’s ear before the amber indicator to her left changed.
Her pencil hovered over the allocation line while the radio’s quiet channel breathed through the earpiece and the overhead clock marked another minute.
Finn sat within reach on the staff-side chair, their knees touching the radiator’s warm cover and their fingers idly tracing a zigzag stripe on a sleeve.
Steam from the kettle thinned near the light as Ruby checked the panel left to right and set the radio handset gently back in its cradle.
A plastic cup waited by Finn’s elbow, a ring of moisture printed on the desk where the chilled water had rested a moment.
Outside the glass, the moth held to the bright patch above the platform, then released and turned, a loose pirouette sketched in the air.
It crossed the painted edge stripe, its shadow sliding over that narrow white band as a coach’s door shut somewhere beyond the frame.
Farther back, a turnstile waited with its metal arms at right angles, quiet geometry holding the concourse’s line while the insect explored the window.
It settled by a small screw at the window frame, wings tented close, the thready antennae making a brief, exact quiver before the next lift.
Ruby’s free hand rose to shade the glare, her wrist resting on the pane, and the reflection of the indicator numbers faded a shade.
She began to lower it toward the pencil, then kept it there, elbow steady, while her other hand slid a sleeve over a fogged oval.
Finn’s shoulders showed a small slump that lifted again when the moth tapped once more, their head tilting to get the clearest angle through the glass.
The radio breathed three words into Ruby’s ear, the handset rose, confirmed the departure, and settled where the cord lay in a soft loop.
Through the wiped circle, the moth resolved into a small body furred like felt, its forewings carrying two pale stripes that only held in that clarity.
Its feet stood on the outer glass, tiny points splayed, and the parallax shifted against the platform’s white band so the distance announced itself.
Heat from the radiator had left a misted patch inside, and that blur once made the insect seem nearer than it was to their side.
Ruby slid her shoulder a handspan left, and the insect shifted against the background, aligning with tiles rather than her desk’s reflection, the trick of distance settling.
Amber dropped to clear on one position, the pencil marked the time, and the intercom’s red light flicked on, then off, as the boarding closed.
Finn’s knees drew closer to the radiator cover, their sock’s blue stripe tucked neat above the shoe, and their gaze held the small insect outside.
The indicator panel readied the next holding bay, and the quiet in her earpiece thinned, then steadied, as the minute on the clock passed.
Ruby leaned in that extra inch, knuckles light on the sill, and set her palm flat to the glass beside the moth.
