Harper reached the rooftop greenhouse while the sky still hid its colors. A narrow metal bridge linked the stairwell to the glass house, and beads of dew clung to each rung. Her camera hung against her jacket; she angled the lens toward the eastern panes, eager to record the first ray at dawn. Beyond the glass, seed trays covered several benches, and an open notebook lay beside them. Every smudge of pencil on its pages functioned as a quiet chronicle of height, shade, and bloom progression. She breathed through fogged air, then stepped onto the bridge, planning to cross before the sky brightened.

Halfway over, the bridge wobbled. A loose bolt let one plank shift, and the movement startled a pigeon roosting under the rail. Wings slapped against the steel, rocking the platform a second time. Harper bent her knees, steadied the camera, and edged forward, but a crate of fertiliser blocked the last metre. She tried sliding it by its corner; damp wood snagged on rust. Water gathered in one shallow groove, forming a pellucid mirror that trembled with every push. She braced her elbow, shoved again, and finally eased the crate aside. The latch on the greenhouse door greeted her with equal resistance; its mechanism stuck until her palm struck it twice, freeing the handle with a metallic cough.

Inside, rows of leaf tips pointed toward a growing band of pale yellow sky. Without warning, a timer hidden in the ventilation system clicked alive. Glass louvres tilted; mild wind spilled through, and a chain reaction lifted panels along the roof. Condensation gathered all night now lost its grip. Drops pattered, then streamed, pouring a sudden shower over the benches. The notebook absorbed the first splash, pages darkening, graphite blurring into waves. Harper ducked, shielded the camera under her jacket, and retreated one pace. Water drummed on plastic trays, splashed against her boots, and sheeted across the floor, chasing any loose soil toward the drains.

She crouched beside the soaked notebook, flipped it open, and watched rivulets redraw each column of data into abstract lines. For a moment, the greenhouse resembled an art gallery: glass, water, and soft gold light mingling under the roof’s vastness. She raised the lens, captured the reflection of sunrise dancing across the wet panes, then set the notebook on a higher shelf where the liquid could no longer reach. Soft light rested across the neat rows of leaves.

哈珀在天空尚未染上色彩時抵達屋頂溫室。一條狹窄的金屬橋連接樓梯間與玻璃屋，露珠附著在每一根橫梁上。她的相機掛在外套前，鏡頭對準東側窗格，準備捕捉黎明第一縷光。玻璃另一邊，育苗盤鋪滿幾張長凳，一本翻開的筆記本躺在旁邊，鉛筆留下的每一道痕跡成為高度、陰影與開花進程的寧靜編年史。她在霧氣中吐出長息，踏上橋面，打算在天色亮起之前穿過。

行至半途，橋面晃動。一顆鬆動的螺栓讓木板移位，驚醒棲息在欄杆下的鴿子。翅膀拍擊鋼架，再度搖晃整個平台。哈珀屈膝穩住相機，繼續前進，但最後一公尺被一箱肥料擋住。她抓住箱角欲移開，潮濕木面與鏽色鐵皮卡住不動。一道清澈水鏡在凹槽中形成，每一次推動都微微顫抖。她用手肘支撐，再次用力，終於騰出空間。溫室門的門閂同樣倔強，直到她以掌心連敲兩下，金屬才發出咳嗽般聲響，柄隨之轉動。

走入室內，一排排嫩葉朝向日漸泛黃的天空。不意之間，通風系統內隱藏的計時器啟動，玻璃百葉傾斜，微風湧入，屋頂板片依序抬起。整夜凝結的水珠失去抓力，先是啪嗒落下，繼而傾洩成雨。筆記本首當其衝吸收水花，頁面變暗，石墨筆跡漸化成波紋。哈珀彎腰，用外套遮住相機，後退一步。水珠擊打塑膠盤，濺向靴面，沿地板奔流，把零散泥土趕向排水口。

她蹲在濕透的筆記本旁，翻開頁面，看細流將數據欄重新描繪成抽象線條。此刻，溫室宛如畫廊：玻璃、水與柔金光在屋頂的廣袤空間中交錯閃動。她舉起鏡頭，捕捉日出在濕窗上跳躍的倒影，隨後把筆記本放到較高的架子上，使水流無法再觸碰。柔和光線停留在整齊的葉列上。
