English 원문
Elias balanced a cardboard drink tray and a long mailing tube while sliding into the station atrium. Overhead lamps reflected on polished tiles, and the usual river of commuters streamed toward the platforms. His local goal looked simple: reach the lockers on the opposite side before the next train emptied another wave of people. Yet his earlier fateful decision to carry both objects at once pressed his elbows tight against his ribs, turning every sidestep into a slow dance.
Halfway across, a hurried traveler brushed his arm. One cup tipped, wobbling like a tiny catastrophe about to spread across the floor. Elias angled the tray, hedging left, right, then backward until the surface tension settled again. The crowd’s flow ignored his careful work; brief pockets opened, then closed with the rhythmic certainty of machinery. An unexpected juxtaposition appeared at the center: a still island of fallen luggage beside a rolling tide of shoes. Navigating that contrast felt like threading a needle from five paces away.
A digital billboard above the ticket gates flickered, cycling through neon letters before blanking out. The sudden darkness stalled conversations, and for a breath paralyzing fear froze ankles across the concourse; no one spoke, but shoulders locked and steps halted. Seconds later the screen brightened, displaying a harmless weather map, and motion resumed in scattered bursts. The pause left unusual gaps in the current, clearing a narrow path toward the lockers. Elias seized the opening, weaving past the motionless suitcase that had caused the earlier gridlock.
He slid the mailing tube into an empty compartment and steadied the tray on the shelf below. The latch clicked, echoing against pillars now bathed in steady light. Across the concourse, the spilled coffee cooled against the tiles.
