English 원문

Marin set her folding stool at the far end of the wooden dock. She has visited the small anchorage many times, yet today she wished to capture a special scene. An aging battleship lay moored beyond the fishing boats, its steel hull reflecting strips of sunlight that danced across the quiet ocean. Pencils rolled beside her sketch pad, and a thin eraser balanced on her knee. The deck that once carried planes was framed against drifting clouds, and rust colored spots dotted the turret like freckles. The vessel stretched so long that its size resisted any quantifiable comparison with the rowboats bobbing near her feet. She raised her pencil and marked the first lines before the midday breeze arrived.

A gust curled the paper, tugging at the loose sheet and tilting her stool sideways. At the same moment, the battleship’s ropes groaned; the tide had shifted, and the massive hull slid forward, pushing a rolling wake toward the dock. The wave slapped planks under Marin’s boots and sprayed salty drops onto the half-finished drawing. She steadied the page with both palms, then paused. The splash had left pale arcs across the graphite lines, almost like watercolor washes. Instead of restarting, she tilted the pad so the droplets ran along the battleship’s outline, widening the shape with soft gray clouds. When the horn sounded and the hull settled again, her final stroke darkened the anchor chain. Water still glimmered on the paper, but every line stayed firm as she closed the pad and stood.
