Noah at the Model Launch Pad-

English 원문
Noah adjusted the collar of his blue jumpsuit while the museum lights dimmed around the model launch pad. The Saturday crowd gathered behind a low rail near the polished floor display. They waited for the miniature spacecraft to zip across the domed room like a silver dragonfly. He had spent hours with the thick operation manual, marking every diagram, and the sequence had been rehearsed three times before opening. Colored lights projected a shifting vision of distant planets across the ceiling, and the track above his head glittered. All he needed was a steady hand on the small remote control. A clear voice would count all the seconds, or so he believed.
The first obstacle made itself known almost as soon as the sequence began. He slid the spacecraft toward the magline clamp, unaware of a hidden screw on its belly. The metal grazed the rail, and the nose cone knocked loose, rattling onto the polished floor. His shoulders twitched; he crouched, twisted the piece back in place, and tried again. This time, after the careful adjustment, the clamp still refused to lock firmly. The rail had been coated with fresh grease an hour earlier, yet a tiny smear of dust now blocked the groove. He wiped the metal with his sleeve, pressed until a soft click echoed, and lifted the remote. If Noah had known the remote still stored a test pattern, he would have cleared it first.
Slowly, he thumbed the green button on the remote, and the small motor hummed to life. For two long breaths nothing moved above the expectant, silent Saturday crowd. Then the spacecraft darted sideways, performed an abrupt spiral maneuver, and sprayed harmless glitter through the air. Children gasped at the sparkling cloud, then laughter burst above them like fresh popcorn. Noah’s hand jerked while he searched the remote display, finally tapping the override button. The vehicle slowed, straightened, and glided along the remainder of the track before landing in a padded net. He wished he had tightened the tiny screw earlier, yet relief warmed his fingertips as applause rolled across the room. The silver model rested in the net, glitter settling around its fins.
