Mara at the Flickering Lagoon-

English 원문
Mara balanced her field bag while the last bus rattled away from the coastal stop. She had spent weeks preparing for the student science symposium, yet one piece still lacked: coastal lichen. Earlier attempts had been foiled by tides, so she reached the lagoon at dawn, determined to outpace the water. Salt mist veiled the horizon, and broken shells crunched beneath her boots. A wooden jetty had been repaired by volunteers during summer, offering a narrow path toward the outer rocks. Her fingers tightened around a small chisel as waves slapped against the pilings.
Halfway across, a board warped under Mara’s weight, forcing her to kneel and crawl the next stretch. If she had remembered spare rope, she would have strapped her tools securely; instead the chisel slid, clanged, and vanished between planks. She sat back, breath clouding the cool air, while translucent jellyfish drifted under the jetty like pale umbrellas. A quick descent onto the sand seemed possible, but a hidden channel lifted water to her knees and pushed her backward. Sea grass tangled around her ankles until she kicked free and gained a flat ledge moments before the rising tide touched it. Sunlight slid across her wet sleeves, reminding her that time slipped as quickly as water.
Twilight coated the lagoon with violet shadows, and Mara’s shoulders drooped until a dim emerald shimmer flared beside her boot. The exposed lichen, soaked by saltwater, glowed like distant planets; the effect had been noted by only one old journal. Keeping the living crust intact, she slid a palm-sized slate into the transparent box the biology department had lent her. A distant gull circled twice, then drifted away, as if puzzled by the sudden light upon the stone. The tide settled, and the jetty, darker now, reflected in the quiet surface. Across the water, faint green patches rested on the dark offshore rocks.
