Lantern Light over Driftwood Arch-

English 원문
Mara reached the beach at dawn, carrying twine, shells, and a curved piece of smooth driftwood. She had promised to prepare a simple welcome arch for the ceremonial gathering planned at sunset. An outline for the arch had been traced by her friend, but the loose sand shifted overnight. White-capped waves rolled farther up the shore than usual, leaving foam rings exactly where her supports needed planting. When she pressed the driftwood ends into the damp ground, the water slipped beneath and toppled the frame. Crabs scuttling between her ankles scattered sand piles, and the first attempt collapsed in a silent heap.
Mara wiped salt from her forehead, then dragged the materials higher, beside a line of sun-bleached stones. She braced the driftwood against two flat rocks, tightening twine until her knuckles whitened like distant breakers. The structure leaned anyway, so she filled cloth bags with wet sand and pressed them around each base. If the tide had turned sooner, the display would have vanished entirely, yet the water paused several meters away. By noon the arch stood upright, decorated with shells that clinked whenever a gust twisted through the opening. Thin clouds drifted overhead, muting sunlight and spreading even brightness across the sand like flour on a tabletop.
Guests arrived near dusk, their laughter mingling with the steady rush of waves and the occasional clap of gull wings. Just before the first lanterns were lit, a small seabird hurtled from the sky and skidded beneath the arch. Startled, the crowd stepped back while the bird settled against the sand, finding sudden refuge inside Mara’s fragile artwork. The incident, unexpected yet gentle, turned the arch from decoration into shelter, and murmurs spread like ripples across the group. Lantern light pooled around driftwood and feathers while the white-capped waves rested farther off in the deepening purple.
