Mateo Under the Falling Light-

English 원문
Late afternoon sunlight filtered between pines, scattering vivid stripes across the narrow forest track. Mateo had already filled three sketchbooks, yet one missing drawing still bothered his careful mind. He aimed to capture the scarlet jay, a bird rarely seen by ordinary weekend hikers. The clearing beside the stream had been recommended by a retired park guide during yesterday’s market conversation. According to that guide, the jay occasionally perched on a mossy stump when daylight slanted just right. Shallow puddles reflected branches, and distant rustling hinted at hidden wildlife moving among ferns. Mateo crouched, setting charcoal, brushes, and fresh paper beside his pack, adjusting perspective lines in soft graphite. He breathed slowly, waiting for color to brighten the wide, green silence around him.
Minutes drifted while plain robins hopped between roots, and a gust flipped Mateo’s blank sheet, streaking charcoal. That attempt had been blurred by restless air, so he pinned every corner with small pebbles. He added a brief note under an earlier log entry, marking the hour beside a damp margin. If Mateo had brought binoculars, he would have noticed quick flashes beyond the alder trunks. He climbed a fallen log for sharper perspective, yet low mist slid in, hiding the distant perch. When the scarlet jay finally crossed the clearing, swaying branches blocked each vivid plume once more.
Evening light dimmed; Mateo switched to watercolors, hoping loose washes might capture movement better than charcoal. He opened the palette, and gathered rainwater pooled inside the plastic lid. A squirrel crashed through leaves; the scarlet jay swooped lower, landing squarely on Mateo’s dripping page. Its claws skated across paper, flinging crimson and blue arcs that formed a vivid, unplanned burst. Mateo outlined the burst with quick branches, turning chaos into a forest scene richer than imagined. The sketchbook lay on the table, a single colorful feather resting across the final page.
