Soft morning light painted the narrow roofs above the crowded street. Mira stepped into the Saturday bazaar with a wooden tray balanced on her palms. She had grown six tiny tomato seedlings on her windowsill. Moist soil continued to nurture their thin stems during the walk. Her goal seemed simple: reach the booth near the fountain and trade the plants for thread. However, gusts rushed along the alley, pushing bright scarves that hung overhead. At the same time, shoppers drifted sideways, forming a moving wall. A painted cart had been parked across the central lane. She tried to keep in mind the fragile leaves, so she walked slowly. Yet the space in front of her shrank whenever another basket appeared.

A sudden lurch from an unseen elbow rocked the tray, and soil jumped. Mira whispered words to encourage herself and slid behind a stack of rugs. The cloth tower offered shelter from the wind, but the crowd still pressed forward. She changed strategy: instead of pushing through, she waited. The rug seller softly lifted one bundle, leaving a gap. Mira slipped through that gap, hugging the tray close. One last swirl of air fluttered a seedling, yet her arm steadied. Moments later the fountain appeared, its surface glittering. She set the tray on the stone edge, and the seedlings stood upright, leaves trembling but intact.
