English 원문
Morning mist still drifted across the square, yet preparations had already begun. The barrels had been stacked beside the stage, and a row of benches had been painted overnight. Fresh straw scented the air while distant fields shaped the scenery beyond the gate. Villagers hurried to bring in a golden harvest from the southern plots, loading carts until the wheels groaned. By noon, ribbons marked the space for the golden harvest celebration; at its center, the celebration leader paced, counting lantern hooks along the roof of the old barn. Mira’s task looked simple: string the last lantern line before dusk.
She dragged a ladder under the eaves, but a loose rung bent outward, snapping against the wall. If the ladder had been sturdier, the first attempt would have succeeded. After replacing the broken step with a spare plank, she climbed again. Wind struck the hanging fabric, twisting it into knots, and the cord proved short by half an arm’s length. Mira wished she had measured earlier. She knotted two spare cords together; the joint slipped once, spraying straw across her hair. Workers below paused, then continued stacking grain, their motion steady while afternoon light deepened.
Dust settled when the sun dipped low. Lantern glass finally clipped onto every hook, and Mira struck a flint. Orange halos slid across wood that had been hidden under dull paint for years; flaking layers curled away, revealing a faded sunburst no one had noticed. The celebration leader stopped counting benches, and even the busiest cart driver raised his head. Light touched the mural, and conversations thinned until only creaking grain sacks moved. Lantern light rested on the newly revealed sunburst.
