Mira balanced a small tray while moving along the winding garden path. Two cups of warm tea trembled beside a slice of bread. Morning air smelled of cut grass, and distant chimes crossed the quiet leaves. She had promised to meet her companion, Leo, near the old willow. Damp stones glistened; one shifted under her shoe and forced a quick sidestep. At the next turn a grey cat darted across, brushing her ankle and tilting the tray, yet the liquid stayed inside the cups.

The willow’s bench waited ahead, but bright green paint still shone on its surface. A gardener, who had been working since sunrise, tapped the drying wood twice, a casual sign of appreciation for the fresh color. Mira paused; placing the tray there would smear the paint. A stone sundial, which has stood in the garden for decades, rose from the grass nearby. Its wide top carried only a thin layer of pollen.

Mira lowered the tray onto the sundial instead, and Leo arrived through the side gate at that moment. They stood rather than sat, lifting the cups. Steam curled upward as each person took a slow sip to savor the taste. Green leaves rustled overhead, pollen drifted, and the new bench kept its clean shine.
