Warm noon light rested on the kitchen tiles, and the scent of cinnamon mingled with fresh grass drifting through an open window. Leah had promised herself a small garden tea party together with her mother, so a porcelain tray in her hands carried cups, biscuits, and a silver pot. She has prepared the tablecloth in advance, yet a sudden gust raced along the corridor, rattling doors that lined the path. At the same moment, a cat that often lounged on the fence slipped indoors and paused right across her shoes.

The wind pressed against the tray, and the cat blocked her next step—two forces tugging at her plan. The tray was nearly pulled sideways; liquid tapped the cup rims. Leah bent her knees, lowering the weight, then shifted her route toward a narrower side doorway where the wind lost strength. With one heel lifted, she nudged the curious cat aside using gentle care from her free elbow. A forgotten invitation, tucked under the tablecloth, fluttered out and landed beside the cat. The animal pounced, pinning the paper, which surprisingly steadied the cloth as well. Leah breathed out; nothing had broken. She reached the garden gate, placed the tray on the wooden bench, and watched steam curl above the cups while sparrows rejoiced in the quiet branches.
