Before the Box Fell- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Soft morning light filled the narrow storeroom.

Milo came to the storeroom to organize the shelves.

His goal was a small brush on the top board.

Two lower shelves held cleaning supplies in baskets of many colors.

Boxes of detergent stood beside a mop and bucket.

The top board sat at an awkward elevation above Milo's head.

He picked a short stool and placed it near the shelf.

When he stepped up, the stool wobbled on the smooth floor.

The movement shook the baskets, and a sponge slid away.

It hit the detergent box, tipping the box toward the edge.

Milo jumped down and caught the box before it could fall.

He placed the box on the ground, then adjusted the stool.

This time he set one foot, tested balance, then reached higher.

His fingers touched the brush, and he lifted it down safely.

The baskets stopped shaking, and the room grew still again.

Milo smiled and began to organize the lower shelves.

The small brush rested beside the other cleaning supplies.

He pushed the stool back under the table.

他把凳子推回桌子下。
