Rusty is a small dog. He waits near the pier. Fish smell drifts around him. The sky is bright. He watches a dropped sandwich. It sits on a crate. Two seagulls land beside it. Their wings flap and flick. Rusty steps toward the crate. The nearer seagull pecks first. The sandwich flips into air. The shop owner gasps nearby.

Bread pieces rain down suddenly. One slice hits a bucket. Rusty darts to the bucket. Water splashes but he leaps. His nose bumps the slice. Salt drops smart his tongue. He shakes and swallows quickly. Crumbs roll across the plank. The two seagulls chase crumbs. Rusty slips under a bench. Rusty stays still under shade.
