English 원문
A tall shelf of timber stood above Leah’s head inside the old glass studio. Dust floated in narrow sun-shafts, and the smell of heated sand drifted around the quiet furnaces. Behind the shelf, a roof beam had been painted by the founder decades earlier; its bright teal stripe remained striking even after years of smoke and polish. Leah reached for a forgotten mold that rested on that beam. She had already positioned a wooden stool, yet her fingertips still hung several centimeters below the target.
She fetched a slim metal pole from the tool rack. The pole wobbled, slipped against the beam, and tapped the mold without moving it. If she had measured the gap first, the pole would have fitted a rubber tip, and the task might have finished sooner. Leah wished she had brought that tip, but impatience kept her arms in motion. The current proprietor crossed the far doorway, glanced at her climbing efforts, and continued toward the cooling tanks without a word. Leah tried again with a loop of cord: she tossed it, missed, and gathered the coil back with deliberate, diligent turns. A third throw tightened around the mold’s handle; the object shifted but refused to fall.
She remembered a saying the founder repeated during long firing nights: patience pays off. Leah anchored the cord to a nearby hook, climbed down, and pressed her weight on the opposite end. The mold finally slid forward, and, to her surprise, a slim notebook hidden behind it toppled as well. Its cover hit the air first, pages fluttered like small wings, and the notebook landed beside her boots while the mold thudded after it. Paper flakes settled across the floorboards and lay still under the slanting light.
