When the Hose Uncoiled- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Warm afternoon light covered the quiet courtyard floor.

Mia carried a small plate of fruit for the iguana. She wanted to give the animal a sweet treat today. The reptile rested under a low bench beside a clay pot. Mia knelt and placed the plate near its tail.

A sparrow fluttered nearby and startled her hand. The plate tipped, and orange slices rolled into a tangled bush. One slice struck a hidden hose, and the hose uncoiled quickly. Water rushed out, spraying soil across Mia´s shoes. Mud splashed over the bench and pushed the iguana backward. Mia reached for a broad palm leaf lying on the path. She gently slid the leaf under the confused reptile. The leaf guided the animal away from the spraying hose. She then blocked the water with a flat stone. The flow stopped, and the courtyard grew calm again. Mia moved the clean fruit back onto the plate. The iguana crawled forward and tasted the delightful slices. Tiny crunches sounded while Mia wiped her muddy shoes.

下午的陽光灑滿寧靜的庭院地面。

米亞捧著一小盤水果，要給綠鬣蜥一份甜點。牠伏在矮長凳與陶罐之間。米亞跪下，把盤子放在牠尾巴旁。

一隻麻雀飛近，驚動了她的手，盤子翻倒，橘子片滾進糾結的灌木。一片橘子撞到藏在裡面的水管，水管立刻鬆開，水流噴出，把土灑在米亞的鞋上；泥水濺到長凳，鬣蜥被逼得往後爬。米亞撿起小徑上的寬大棕櫚葉，輕輕把葉子塞到受驚的爬蟲身下，引牠離開噴水處，然後用一塊平石堵住水口。水停了，庭院重新安靜。米亞把乾淨的水果拾回盤中，鬣蜥爬前品嘗香甜的果片。鞋子上還在滴泥，米亞彎腰擦拭。
