Soft night air moved through the open kitchen window. Sam cut bright paper on the table. He folded the sheet into a neat goose. Tomorrow his class shows crafts, so he wants it ready. A fancy green ribbon waited beside the glue pot. He hoped to hang the bird on the cold fridge. Glue dried too slowly, and the ribbon slid away.

Sam reached for a small round magnet on the door. The magnet snapped from his fingers and hit the ribbon. Ribbon, magnet, and goose dropped onto a metal bowl. The bowl tipped, and cereal rings scattered across the floor. A silver coin, hidden under the fridge, rolled out. It bounced once and slipped inside the paper goose. The coin sat inside, a lucky piece against the paper. He pressed the ribbon back, then placed a lighter magnet inside. The metal coin pulled the hidden magnet, so the bird stayed. Cereal rings still covered the floor, but the craft stood tall. Sam turned off the kitchen light.
