A young grey squirrel clamps a large walnut between her teeth and steps onto the garden fence. The hollow oak that has sheltered her through earlier seasons rises on the opposite side of the yard. A washing line, pulled tight above an open courtyard, offers the most direct crossing. Warm sun spreads over the wooden rail, and the smell of roasted peanuts drifts from a cart outside the gate. A moderate breeze fans her whiskers. She springs from the fence to the line; tiny claws squeeze the thin wire, and the walnut rests against her chest.

Halfway across, the wire dips suddenly. The added weight stretches the line, and the breeze rocks it side to side. Her balance shifts; the walnut slides from her grip, bounces once on the line, then drops onto the tarp roof of a small wooden stage used as a weekend venue. The nut rolls downward with a humorous wobble, slaps the edge, and lands inside a plastic bucket. The hollow hit echoes across the courtyard, offering an odd experience for nearby pigeons that flutter away.

The squirrel scrambles down a drainpipe, reaches the bucket, and hooks her paws around the prize. A practical ramp of stacked crates leans beside the stage. She nudges the walnut along each crate, pauses when a loose lid blocks the path, and pushes again until the nut touches grass. Rolling becomes easier on the ground; fallen leaves cushion the movement. At the oak, she lifts the walnut over a root and lets it slide into the hollow trunk. Leaves settle, wire above still sways, and the yard grows quiet.

松鼠順著排水管衝下來，抵達桶邊，用爪勾住戰利品。舞台旁斜靠著一條由堆箱組成的實用斜坡。牠把核桃沿著每個箱子推動，一度被鬆動的蓋子擋住，停下來又再推，直到核桃碰到草地。地面滾動更輕鬆，落葉為其增添緩衝。到了橡樹前，牠把核桃抬過粗根，讓它滑進空心樹幹。落葉靜靜降落，頭頂的繩子仍輕輕搖晃，院子恢復寧靜。
