When the Box Jumped- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light fell across the small kitchen table.

Mia set a square box in the center carefully. She planned to turn it into a bright present. Colorful paper rested beside scissors and long silver tape. A blue student notebook lay open next to her elbow. When she pulled the tape, it stuck to everything nearby. The majority of the strip clung to her moving fingers. She waved her hand, and the box slid toward the edge. She jumped forward and raised her arm to defend it.

The sudden push made the box bump a metal cup. The cup tipped over and struck a tiny toy car. The car rolled across tiles and blocked the kitchen door. Mia grabbed a broom and steered the little car aside. At last the box stayed still, yet its lid jumped open. A green clockwork frog sprang out, an extra surprise. Its small legs clicked, and it hopped across her wrapped paper. Mia laughed, caught it, and placed it gently inside again. She slid the tight ribbon over the lid and stepped back. The box now rested in the center, quiet and shining. She pushed the chair under the table.

突然的推力讓盒子撞到一個金屬杯。杯子翻倒又擊中一輛小玩具車。玩具車沿著瓷磚地滑動，卡在廚房門前。Mia 抓起掃把，把小車推到一旁。終於，盒子停穩了，可是蓋子卻猛地彈開。一隻綠色發條青蛙跳了出來，成了額外的驚喜。牠的小腿發出喀喀聲，蹦過她的包裝紙。Mia 笑了，抓住它，再輕輕放回盒裡。她把緊繃的緞帶套過蓋子，然後後退一步。盒子現在靜靜地待在中央，閃著光。她把椅子推進桌子底下。
