English 원문
Soft morning light slanted between pear trees; dew rolled from every leaf and dropped onto dark soil. A faint buzz from distant bees mixed with the low creak of a wooden cart near the shed. Felix set a rough plank across his shoulder and crossed the orchard. Overnight wind had bent the frame that held low branches away from the ground, and ripe fruit already brushed the dirt. He aimed to lift the frame and secure fresh reinforcement before more pears touched the soil. The structure had been built by a traveling artisan last spring, but age and weather had loosened every joint. He had spent the early hours gathering scrap timber behind the greenhouse, ready to pick up the sagging beam.
His first attempt failed at once. The plank slid on wet grass, and the beam dropped back, showering him with dry bark. Felix wiped mud from his palms, wedged a smooth stone under one post, and tried again. The beam rose higher this time, yet a knot in the rope scraped his wrist and opened, undoing half his work. Rosa, his mentor, watched from the doorway without a word; her steady presence neither hurried nor restrained him. Breathing hard, Felix dragged an abandoned ladder closer, hoping its rungs could act as quick reinforcement. The ladder had been patched with tin strips last year, so it groaned but held while he pressed it under the frame.
A sudden flutter burst from between leaves; a hidden bird darted out, knocking a small cedar block onto the grass. The block carried an intricate leaf pattern, unmistakably the artisan's mark, now half-buried in moss. Felix paused, surprised by the forgotten piece, then slid it under the main post as a wedge. Weight shifted; pears lifted clear of the soil at last. Still, the frame leaned slightly, and the improvised supports looked uneven, yet branches no longer scraped the ground. Felix walked back toward the shed, boots squelching, while the cedar block stood firm beneath the hanging fruit.
