Lina pushed her small cart through the busy market. The cart felt heavy and full of bright oranges. She wanted cool water from the stone fountain ahead. A wooden gate blocked the narrow passage to the courtyard. She leaned forward and tried to slide the gate sideways. It scraped the ground once and stopped completely. Dust rose around her shoes when the wheel hit a stone.

Warm sunlight shone across the rough stone floor beside the gate. Lina bent down and rapped the middle bar with knuckles. The hollow sound surprised her over the market chatter. She slid one finger under the bar and lifted slowly. The bar rose bright against dust; the gate swung outward. Wood panel struck a crate, and carrots rolled like marbles. Startled, a hare sprang from the crate and darted away. Vendors dodged the animal while oranges stayed safe in Lina’s cart. She steered past the mess toward a small green oasis. Water in the fountain stayed peaceful and cool nearby. A small splash rose each time the water hit stone.
