English 원문
Liam, a thirteen-year-old adventurer in worn boots, stood beside a small river. The wooden rowboat rested half in the water and half on the gritty shore. Cracked green paint carried the memory of long summer trips downstream. Sticky sand had formed a tight embrace around the hull, while the afternoon current pulled the stern toward deeper water. Today’s quest was simple: drag the boat fully onto dry ground for a fresh coat of varnish. He braced his feet and pulled on the rope. The sand refused to release its prize, and the current swung the bow sideways. After two more hard tugs, the attempt failed; the boat remained fixed like a buried log.
As he caught his breath, a melancholy whistle from a distant freight train drifted across the field. Liam noticed something else: each passing wave lifted the stern a finger’s width before dropping it again. The bow was pressed down by sand, yet the water itself offered a lever. He had already loosened the oars that were stuck under a seat, so nothing blocked movement now. Kneeling, he timed his next pull with the largest ripple. When the swell rose, he leaned back sharply. Water force met sand suction; the embrace broke, and the boat slid free. However, the freed craft glided into the current and spun away from the bank. The loose rope skimmed after it, snagged a low branch, and stopped. Liam splashed forward, grabbed the line, and looped the wet rope twice around the trunk before pulling it tight.
