English 원문
A rusty hinge squealed sharply inside the dusty, glass-roofed greenhouse. Olive stopped beneath the cracked skylight and listened to the fading echo. Spring rain had swollen the frame weeks earlier, so the heavy glass drooped halfway. The pane now blocked the central path like a low ceiling. Seth, energetic after cycling across town, set his toolbox down and pushed upward. The weight pressed back, and rust flakes drifted onto both sleeves. He tried again, bracing elbows against the frame, yet the pane banged downward. Neighbors once nicknamed her never give up after watching her fight a frozen gate all winter. Olive stepped forward, gripped the side bar, and pushed with him. Together they raised the glass only a finger before it slid down again. Warm air from broken floor vents kept rising, but it leaked around the edges. Citrus peel in Seth’s pocket released a sharp scent, a tiny zest for life in the stale room. Sweat gathered, and both of them had to breathe deeply.
Olive wiped dust from her cheek and glanced at a loose plastic sheet near cracked pots. It flapped whenever warm air escaped through the floor grates. She saw the sheet’s broad surface and pictured it pulling like a sail. They attached two corners to the skylight’s inner bar with light wire from Seth’s box. On his count, Seth lifted again while Olive steadied the other edge. Warm air ballooned the sheet, pushing against the glass and easing its weight. The pane swung high and struck the metal stop with a ringing clang. A rush of displaced air shot outward, scattering dry soil and glossy seed packets along the benches. An empty pot rolled across the tiles and tapped the doorframe. The skylight remained lifted, yet a winding trail of spilled seeds now covered the floor. Two sets of dusty footprints pressed into that bright pattern and curved toward the exit.
