English 원문
Rosa pivoted the tall poster tube toward the top shelf of the supply closet, aiming to tuck her science-fair entry away before the final bell echoed. Her board waited open on a nearby desk, a quantitative chart of water use fixed beside a holistic diagram explaining how to conserve energy in a small building. A tiny cardboard harbor, glued under the graphs, rocked whenever a footstep vibrated the floor. She balanced on her toes, participant badge still clipped to her jacket, and eased the tube upward. The rim tapped a stack of steel-grey rulers leaning against a plastic jar.
Blue-grey light slipped between half-closed blinds and painted pale bands across rows of desks. Chalk dust hovered inside the beams like slow snow. The air held a faint scent of old paper and colder metal from lockers down the corridor. Faded pencil marks scarred the upper shelf, recording earlier projects from distant semesters, while the rulers showed scratches gathered through years of geometry classes. Outside, the corridor clock had lost a minute, its second hand trembling near the twelve.
The rulers slid like miniature rails, struck the jar, and the glass cylinder tilted. Marbles spilled, scattering sharp flashes across the frost-white tabletop. Several marbles hit the cardboard harbor; its pier tipped, launching a wooden boat onto the floor. The boat bounced once, collided with the doorstop, and set the open classroom door swinging. That wide arc herded the marbles toward the corridor just as the warning bell rang. Rosa lunged and skidded a foot forward. An eraser dropped from the door’s magnetic frame, landing in the path and absorbing the last roll. The cascade halted; marbles gathered in a shallow crescent around the soft block while the door swayed to a narrower angle. Rosa breathed out, gathered the rulers, then eased the poster tube onto the shelf at last. At the same hour upstairs, a lone compass spun, drawing pale loops across a desk.
