To gather evidence, she ran a dark graphite stick along the edge; bright scratches appeared where the wood rubbed the glass earlier. The first passes with the scraper loosened only powder, so she switched to a narrow chisel and a wooden mallet, tapping carefully. The board flexed, yet the panel still halted at the same point.
