Mist on the Hidden Wheel-

English 원문
A rubber wheel screeched against polished tiles. Right beside the noise, a line of damp paw-shaped marks dotted the entrance mat, each darker patch shrinking as air-conditioning drew moisture upward.
Wade leaned his weight into the shopping cart, its front wheel wobbling like a loose ankle. The marks crossed the produce area, disappearing whenever a misting nozzle exhaled over gleaming lettuce. Saturday revelry rolled from a sample table near the bakery; children spun in small circles, their gleeful shouts bouncing beneath the fluorescent roof. Tradition placed a tower of quilted blankets near the seasonal shelf, bright squares piled like soft bricks. Wade’s companion Cora nudged one blanket with her elbow, then pointed toward the fading trail. They followed it past stacked oranges until the cart’s stuck wheel jammed against a floor joint. Wade had pressed down, the axle had rotated halfway, and the cart had been almost free when his phone buzzed—an unknown number. He stepped outside to answer, shoulders tensing as cool evening air met warm supermarket breath.
By the time he returned, the mist had cycled again. The neat paw prints were gone; in their place sprawled wide smudges shaped exactly like the tread on the cart’s offending wheel. An advanced passive thought crossed his mind: the floor had been decorated by his own cart, not by any animal. If he had noticed the pattern earlier, the chase would have ended sooner. Cora crouched, traced the ridged rubber, and laughed, “Same design.” Wade wished he had covered the wheel before pushing it, yet the accident offered a solution. He lifted the top blanket, folded it twice, and wedged the pad between metal frame and wheel to dampen the squeal. He tucked the folded blanket under the front corner, and cool mist lingered on his knuckles.
