Bright glare from noon sunlight swept across the sheet, while the tripod cast a sharp triangular shadow over one corner. Bea stood near the push-and-release spot and gave the bottle a gentle shove; the pendulum traced a widening arc that gleamed wet against the matte lines already dried. Max, an adult at the mixing area, stirred fresh pigment, the stick flashing whenever light caught its glossy surface. Close to the supply bag rested a glass jar of memories, half-filled with shells and ticket scraps that caught stray shafts of light. Bea aimed for slim curves, yet the first surge of paint poured in thick ribbons, blurring the pattern.

The surplus flow continued; each swing left a broad smear that swallowed the earlier shadow-edge rings. Bea paused, wiped splatter from her wrist, and tried a creative fix: a strip of tape pressed over the hole, leaving a pin-sized gap. She had placed the tape slightly off-centre, hoping the angled exit would slow the stream. When she released the bottle again, the glare of fresh drips looked finer, but halfway through the cycle the damp tape slipped, and wide drops resumed their heavy fall, spreading pools that shone like small mirrors on the sunlit paper. Her resourceful fingers added a second strip folded tighter around the cap, smoothing it firmly against the sticky plastic.

The narrowed opening held, and the drip rate quietened; however, earlier puddles began a private cascade. A bright trickle slid toward a pebble that weighed the sheet’s corner. The pebble teetered under the liquid push, rolled across the dappled silhouette of grass, and bumped the jar of memories. Glass met glassy surface with a muted clink; the jar drifted forward, its rounded side knocking against a small ceramic urn filled with rinse water for brushes. The urn tilted, throwing a slanted glow where light bounced off its wet rim, yet Max’s foot blocked its path before water could spill over the artwork. Above this brief barrier, the bottle still swung, and a final droplet traced a shrinking spiral toward the centre.
