English 원문
The hook under the tripod's crossbar showed only a faint ring of dried teal. Lyra crouched, scanning the grass until her fingers met the cool plastic of the pendulum bottle lying beside a folded corner of paper. A gentle breeze from the alleyway behind the garden must have nudged the string loose, and the bottle had rolled, leaving a smear that sliced through the neat inner circle traced by earlier swings. She wiped the nozzle, retied the knot, and gave the bottle a soft backward push. Paint began its rhythmic debut, every drip catching the pale light before landing. After three passes, however, the hole proved too wide; a sudden gush flooded one side of the sheet, drowning half the arcs in a blue pool. She narrowed the opening with tape and attempted a slower maneuver, hoping to regain the pattern’s balance.
She had just steadied the swing when, behind her, a sharp clatter of plastic broke the rhythm. Bram, kneeling at the paint-mixing area, had knocked the tall water jug while swapping brushes; water streamed toward the supply bag. Lyra hurried over and lifted the jug upright, then gathered a damp towel to blot the ground. The task took longer than expected because a knot on the jug’s handle had swollen. By the time she returned to the tripod, the sun had drifted, and the sheet lay under hotter light. The pendulum hung motionless; the paint inside had drained almost completely, leaving a thick cobalt crescent where gravity drew the last drops into a dark edge. The once-bright arcs were now matte except for that fresh rim, creating a surprise break in the design.
Instead of pulling the bottle down for a refill, Lyra rearranged her steps: she walked to the cups first, mixed a thinner violet, then returned and poured through the open nozzle while the pendulum kept still. That change of sequence let the violet thread begin at the cobalt crescent, turning the accident into a planned flourish. Each swing shortened naturally, yet the fresh colour looped into earlier paths, a quiet reunion of shades around the inner circle. She paused between pushes, releasing the bottle only when its rhythm matched the faint creak above, and soon the pattern filled the sheet with overlapping geometry. By evening, pale light slid across the lawn; footprints near the tripod had dried into firmer ground. The bottle hung empty and still, its last violet bead hardened into a tiny glassy pearl beneath the nozzle.
