English 원문
A spoon, a half-crumbled biscuit, and a damp leaf lay on the sill. The leaf held the faint imprint of a snail’s looping trail.
Otto’s shoulder brushed Noemi’s as both stood at the lower pane, their fingertips leaving clear, trembling lines across the fogged glass. Otto dragged his finger straight downward, slow enough to sense water gathering behind the nail. Noemi traced loose circles that met his marks at sharp angles. The overlap already blurred where a drip slid from the upper pane. Neither spoke; the rain outside added a soft hiss, and radiator heat pressed against their backs. Xander hummed near the bookshelf, pages rustling softly each time he shifted his weight forward. During this quiet interlude, a thin stream from the gutter above hit the window, sending fresh beads that crept toward the centre.
Otto bent his knees to reach lower and shape what looked like trunks inside a shaded glade. Yet the fresh drip cut straight through his tallest tree, slicing the smooth line into two trembling halves. He wiped the wet fingertip on his sleeve, then raised the leaf to clear space above the smear. Tilting it toward the lamp showed that the shiny trail was only scattered dust held by moisture. If he had kept fighting the vertical streak, the spreading water would have erased every careful trunk anyway. The new view sparked a subtle pivot; he and Noemi leaned closer in a gentle huddle and let the streak widen. Their fingers worked with the flow, guiding side channels so the running line turned into a narrow cascade. Each new droplet added gentle movement instead of damage, bending the shining thread like water over stone.
The shared waterfall grew until tiny streams branched from it, meeting the earlier circles and making pools along the sill edge. Warm tea steam fogged a corner again, but Otto simply left it untouched for now. Outside, tyres hissed along the wet street, and the sound mixed with the window’s quiet cascade inside the room. The mist framed the falling water like distant spray, and new ideas waited behind the cloudy veil. He was steadily tracing the falling water across the lower pane, thumb hovering ready for the next branch.
