The sudden tug bumped the ceramic container of tea toward Ronan, who crouched beside it.

Ronan shifted, his hind leg brushing the container just enough to tilt it against the frame. The cup rocked, bumped the damp cloth, and the cloth slid, knocking Cleo's reference sketch so it toppled onto the radiator grille. Rising heat waved upward, fogging a clear oval that swallowed half the haystack and blurred its straw outline. Steam met cold glass, crackling quietly while new droplets raced the first drip, creating a second vertical smear. Tiny beads gathered on the lower pane below, descending in staggered paths like silver insects exploring a cliff. Cleo darted forward, steadied the cup with her palm, then wedged the cloth beneath it to stop further sliding. Her quick movement left faint wet prints on the curtain border, and appreciation for the surviving shapes hovered in the warm room. On the sill, Ronan twitched his whiskers and watched a ripple travel around the cup, circling toward its smooth rim.
