English 원문
The gate’s display glowed green, but the barrier bar stayed rigid. Corbin pressed his travel card against the reader with a quick wrist flick. Cold from the outside air still clung to the plastic, and a faint cloud flashed across the reader’s clear cover. The scanner stayed silent. He lifted the card, rubbed a thumb over a tiny gouge along its edge, and tried again. Moisture beaded, rolled downward, and the green light dimmed to amber. A second later the screen blurred as more condensation spread across its surface; the passage remained closed. Corbin stepped aside, shoulders tight, while the orange timetable overhead counted down three minutes until the next bus.
Inside the waiting shelter a soft hum pulsed through the metal bench. Corbin stretched his legs, then rose to the small kiosk beside the vending machine. Steam drifted from a cup of cocoa as he gripped it, letting warmth creep into his fingers. He turned to examine a newly installed route map set in a steel frame; its colored palette of lines twisted like bundled ribbons. A maintenance worker slid open the change repository of the ticket top-up machine, scooping coins into a canvas pouch; a few escaped and skittered near Corbin’s shoes. He crouched, nudged them back toward the pouch, and retied a loose lace. The schedule board flickered; if the green bar turned red again, he would lose the connection, so he shifted his weight from heel to toe, ready for whatever came next.
A hiss of releasing brakes rolled through the hall, and warm air pushed past the shelter. Ivy jogged over, balancing another cocoa. The movement jostled Corbin’s pocket, and the cooled card slipped out, landing against his palm without invitation. The reader ahead now stood clear; the fog had been wiped away by a staff towel minutes earlier. Corbin covered the old gouge with his thumb, kept the card angled, and tapped once. The barrier bar folded back with no pause. A receipt strip tore neatly from the slot. He caught the half showing the time stamp; Ivy caught the half listing the route, and thin paper strips fluttered between their fingers as the escalator carried them toward the upper platform.
