English 원문
Tess’s shoe brushed the concrete, and a stretch of the blue-gold border puffed into dust under the glare pouring through the roll-up door. She crouched inside the bright rectangle, spotting a gap where the chalk line curved away like a tiny ravine across the floor. The plan had been clear when she had sketched it earlier, yet foot traffic and a heavy bucket of paste now blocked the seam. Its base sat in deep shadow, and dried drips clung to it like cobblestones, sealing it to the floor. Tess wrapped both hands around the handle and heaved; the viscous mass inside shifted, but the bucket hardly moved. Above her, Blake steadied a ladder, and his elbow nudged a roll of gold tissue perched on the trailer edge. The roll tipped, slid through a sharp shaft of light, and thudded against the bucket, sending a dull splash of paste across the dimmer concrete.
Paste streaked the side of the runaway roll, and the cylinder kept turning, leaving a gleaming imprint of gold-flecked blue across the smudged border. Tess snatched a short plank from beside the wall; if the tissue were thinner, it would simply crumple, yet its weight allowed momentum. She dropped the plank in the roll’s path. Wood met cardboard with a dry knock, slowing the spin before it could reach the fresh-flower trays. The coated roll now carried a straight, sticky edge, and a thought flickered as bright as the doorway light: the same thick paste that refused to pour could draw a durable stripe. She guided the roll along the missing section, pressing it against the floor while Blake kept the plank beside her, steering occasional wobble. Under each push, the paste left a bold, shining track that restored the border, and the heavy bucket stayed exactly where it had blocked her moments before, now acting as a steady anchor for the roll’s final pass. A slow drip from the bucket’s rim kept tapping on the concrete, marking time in the quiet shed.
