Bead Against the Rolling Cups-

English 원문
Coins rattled against each other inside the thin metal box under Harriet's slightly sticky fingertips. In the same moment, three empty paper cups rolled along the hot tabletop in a diagonal, as if following an invisible string. Harriet’s palm pressed the smooth vessel of glass — the pitcher — firmly back into place again. Its wet surface slipped under her fingers while condensation slowly dripped onto rough cardboard below. Each drip left a faint trail that softened the ink price, the digits sagging like damp cloth. A warm puff of breeze lifted the nearest cup, turned it, then laid it down again. The paper felt feather-light against her thumb, almost brittle after long hours under the steady sun. On the prep board, lemon halves waited, their cut faces sticky with citrus oil, while the hand-juicer’s ridged dome clogged with pulp. She had already juiced six firm lemons, yet stubborn pulp still blocked the ridges inside the dome. The price digits had been slowly blurred by creeping water before she finally noticed their smudge. A bead, green and polished like a tiny gemstone, rested among the coins, colder than the metal around it. Dust from the sidewalk gathered along umbrella ribs, gritty when her knuckle lightly brushed past.
Two walkers paused beside the stand, one asking for extra sugar, the other choosing none. Only then did a growing awareness of the cup problem reach Harriet; the three blond paper walls looked identical. She poured pale liquid, heavy with melting ice, until air bubbled through the spout in a sudden gasp. While she spooned grainy sugar into the first cup, another gust nudged both containers sideways, erasing their positions. Strategy-A came fast: she wiped the tabletop with a damp napkin, pressed each base onto the wet patch, and trusted the seal. It worked at first— until she opened the coin box to count change for waiting customers. The mixture of cool coins slipped between her pinching fingers, and the tiny green gemstone slid free, rolling across the table. She chased it, counting aloud, lost track of which cup was which, and heard the customers shuffle on the pavement. The second obstacle arrived as slow arithmetic performed under their steady, waiting gaze that prickled her skin. Switching tools, she picked up the gemstone and set it firmly against the sugared cup as a marker. With cups finally distinct, she handed them over, then stepped back, wiping damp sugar from her knuckles. The cups kept edging along the warm tabletop, tugged by the tiny slope she had just discovered.
