English 원문
Rain had stopped only minutes earlier, and a dark damp mark stretched across the gazebo step where water had gathered. Keira and Rafe stepped under the slate-coloured roof, gravel still clinging lightly to their shoes. One carried a blue-grey scarf, the other a small planter holding a delicate mint seedling. Fine spray drifted from the distant fountain and left translucent dots on the wooden seat. No other benches stood free; pigeon calls echoed off the metal rafters while a nearby lamp flickered pale against the cool light. Keira ran her hand slowly over the bench, fingertips meeting grain now raised by moisture. The two friends paused, watching droplets thread toward the step below in slow uneven lines. The seedling’s thin leaves trembled each time a low crosswind reached the gazebo space again.
Keira unfolded the scarf and swept it along the seat until moisture shone only in narrow stripes. The cloth soaked quickly, and darker streaks soon spread across its silver weave in bands. Rafe set the planter down, but the uneven slats nudged the light pot sideways, tipping loose soil toward the gap. He steadied it, then watched water pearls forming under the pot’s rim one by one. A gust from the fountain refreshed their faces in sharp cool bursts. The wind carried a mist diagonal across the floorboards, matching the dark stain spotted earlier. They understood at once that the mark belonged to the fountain spray, not the passing cloudburst. The pot slid another finger-width along the glossed slat before Rafe caught its rim again. Keira considered the dripping cloth, then gave a small nod to continue rather than search for another place. She doubled the scarf, pushed one end beneath the planter to level it, and kept the other half flat for sitting. The bench still shone in scattered patches, yet the seedling now stood upright, its thin stem no longer swaying.
Rafe lowered himself onto the exposed wood beside the folded cloth; a faint chill crept through his trousers, but he remained still. Contentment lingered in the quiet space between their shoulders for several steady breaths there. The fountain pulse shrank under the hidden timer, its mist paling to a thin ribbon. Pigeons shuffled above, dusting fine feathers onto the lamp’s glass in slow silver spirals today. Keira traced the planter’s rim once, making sure the soil lay even around the edge. She then leaned back to watch a duck arc across the pond’s steel-grey water surface. Keira tapped loose soil into the planter; a thin drop slipped off the damp bench onto floorboards, unnoticed as her hand withdrew.
