Scratches on the Coin Box-

English 원문
Fresh scratches crossed the cold brass button of the coin-change box; someone had tried it minutes earlier, leaving a faint metallic dust on the rim. A thin plastic leaflet for the zoo’s autumn festival hung from the wooden frame above, its edges slightly curled and gritty to the touch.
Zeke pressed his thumb against the button. The spring pushed back with steady tension, so he leaned harder until reaching a quiet yielding point; nothing dropped. Two families negotiated the narrow pathway behind him, shoes crunching over loose gravel as Keira waited beside the map kiosk bench. She had been scanning the timetable; the penguin feeding had been shifted forward by half an hour. Keira slid a fingernail along the coin slot and felt something soft snag her skin. Using a folded ticket in a resourceful pinch, she teased out a damp fragment of map that had been wedged deep inside. Zeke tried again, keeping his palm flat to spread the pressure, yet the chute stayed silent.
He set both thumbs on the polished surface and adjusted the angle, pushing with slower, even force. The spring compressed once more, trembled, and finally released a dull stack of warm fifty-cent pieces onto the rough collection tray. Metal edges rattled against the painted steel, announcing success. As he gathered the coins, he noticed an extra bright token among them, marked for the binoculars near the big-cat deck. Neither of them had inserted that style of token; perhaps it had been forgotten by the hurried visitor whose scratches still showed on the brass. Keira’s eyes widened, and a passing breeze flipped the autumn festival leaflet so that its glossy corner struck Zeke’s wrist. He laughed, brushed off the dusty specks, and flicked the unexpected token into Keira’s waiting palm.
