English 원문
The wire hoop tapped twice against the bucket’s rim, each tap a quick, hollow note that broke the midday quiet. June pinched the cool metal and dipped it until the slippery solution swallowed the whole circle. A thin film formed; the membrane felt almost weightless yet pulled at the hoop with a silky drag. Colour swirled across it, the upper strip already darkening toward midnight purple. She wanted that shifting pattern to reach the wind-shadow wall, where the film might survive long enough to study the bands. Her first walk began; grass pressed wet and cold under her shoes, and a sudden puff brushed her sleeve. The film burst with a sound like torn paper, and a fine spray spotted her arm. A faint strain tightened the muscles near her elbow as she steadied the hoop again, puzzled by how quickly the calm garden could betray her.
She dipped once more, turning the long handle so it worked like a lever against the bucket edge; the motion lifted the frame straighter and faster, letting less liquid drip away. Near the open centre of the yard she paused, counting three slow breaths while the neighbouring trees rustled. Archie, playing daredevil downwind, ran through drifting bubbles and clapped at each silent pop, yet the air around June stayed briefly still. On the fourth breath she stepped forward; her knees bent slightly to soften each footfall, and the film quivered but held. Iridescent ladders of green and gold marched downward, revealing a thin streak that always appeared beside a rough solder joint. She angled the hoop so that streak faced the fence, hiding it from the breeze. A cat landed on the fence rail, its paws thudding once, and the film sagged yet refused to break. Seconds later it succumbed in silence, leaving only damp dots on the grass. Over by the wall, fence slats now emitted a low, even hush as the steady wind slid through each narrow gap.
