Warm grass gave off a sun-baked hay smell, while the wooden fence offered a light resin note.

Frida chose the dinner-plate hoop, slid it into the bucket, and lifted slowly, watching a shimmering sheet emerge. A cool soap perfume drifted up where the film met air, sharper than earlier rises. The extra weight of solution bowed the center; the top edge had been gradually weakened by constant thinning and burst. She dipped again, shook off surplus drops, yet each new sheet shared the same fate before she crossed the lawn. A light gust over the grass carried cut-clover scent and wobbled the frame, ruining its balance. When the fourth sheet sagged again, her wrist turned by accident, leaving the hoop briefly inverted. Thicker liquid now sat along what became the upper edge, and the fragile zone near her fingers looked unexpectedly stronger. In a small gamble, she kept the frame upside-down and began the slow journey toward the wind-shadow wall.

The shadowed fence blocked wind, yet the angle dulled colours; she tipped the inverted hoop until sunlight crossed the sheet. Rainbow bands lined up like the row of frames, evenly sliding from edge to edge. A green shed used as a garden facility gave off a metallic tang beneath the soap sweetness. With the heavy curve now above, gravity fed a slow drip instead of a tear, and the film endured. Frida’s shoulders uncoiled, and she steadied the hoop with two fingers spread wide. A melodious hum from a passing bee mixed with the floral air that clung above the lawn. The bee paused before the shining surface, its legs dusted with pollen from the loamy border flowers. In a quick nudge, the bee tapped the film and darted upward while a tiny rainbow droplet slid to the grass.
