A bright yellow hat rests by fence. Miles stands near the house step. He walks along the stone path. Wet grass brushes his bare ankles. Morning light touches wet leaves. Spot one is the wooden bench. Old paint flakes form pale sand. He walks on toward the gate. Spot two is a wide puddle. Cool water covers one path quarter. Water blocks his next step. He stretches legs and reaches stone. His shoe lands on dry edge. Now he stands beside the fence. The hat stays still and bright.

Miles turns and walks back slowly. At the puddle, a moss island floats. The tiny green circle stays quiet. His mouth lifts; he steps on. At the bench he sees pale scratches. They form thin lines like moons. He reaches the step near house. Damp air carries soft earth smell. The yellow hat now catches sun.
