Soapy air drifts around Kestrel. Sun rays give the counter a smooth golden shine. The kitchen light stays soft. Radio voices share baking advice. Steam floats. One voice lists a cookie recipe. Kestrel passes the silver sink. She walks by the flour board. Window glass waits ahead. She stops at the window. Leaves quiver outside softly.

Kestrel pivots and returns carefully. Near the board she pauses. A thin scratch lines the wood. Flour dust marks the amount used. She edges nearer the sink. A round bubble rests on the tap. Colors twist inside quietly. For some reason it stays. The grown-up chuckles from dishes. "Nice bubble," the grown-up says. A plate clinks. Kestrel halts near her first spot. The soapy air swirls above.
