The Overfilled Tea Sieve That Stirred the Ants-

English 원문
The top sieve rattled under Xavier’s swift shaking, but the row of lower trays below stayed perfectly still. Mist left by an earlier shower cooled the steel-grey bamboo frames, and droplets began to condense along the fine mesh. Xavier had already filled the upper sieve once, yet he scooped another silver bowl of leaves, hoping to shorten the task. The extra layer spread like dark shavings against the pale mesh, each fragment sweeping outward when he tilted the frame. From the packaging table, Gemma glanced up and called, “Your pile looks heavy!” as brass weights clicked beside her notebook.
Ignoring the sharp tone in her voice, he added a second bowl, then wedged a thin twig under one corner for support. The sieve sagged, and crushed tips slipped through, sprinkling the stone path below like garnish scattered across a cold plate. Ants surfaced from cracks, steering toward the fresh scent and clustering into a black ribbon that writhed along the blue-grey stones. Their sudden movement jolted a pale gecko resting nearby; its leap toppled a leaning stack of empty trays behind the rack. The trays clattered down the slope, sweeping dust ahead of them while the gecko darted past Xavier’s ankle in a rapid dash. One curled leaf fragment on the mesh looked like a tiny cuttlefish before it tumbled after the trays.
The racket echoed across the terrace, and larger fragments continued pouring while more ants clambered onto the widening trail. Xavier slid both palms under the frame, lifted the added twig free, and tipped half the overfilled leaves back into the waiting bowl. With the weight reduced, the mesh flattened; only a faint rustle remained, and the ant line thinned as scent patches dispersed. The gecko froze beneath the rack, its pulse visible along the frost-white skin of its throat, then slipped between stones and away. Several loose trays had been stopped by a low retaining rail, their edges rocking gently in the blue shadow beneath the shed. Warm dust clung to Xavier’s fingertips, and tiny grains kept sliding across his skin as he flexed them beside the sieve.
