English 원문
Every afternoon, Griffon uncorked yesterday’s bergamot dilution, yet today the cork resisted, squeaking against glass instead of yielding at the customary first pull. Outside the high window, a pigeon dropped onto the sill, tail grazing the stone, the sudden thump disturbing the workshop’s steady tick. The bird blinked, unhurried, as the pop finally freed the stopper. Warm scent climbed the air, met cedar shelves, then drifted through the open pane where sunlight drew a pale threshold across the marble. Griffon noticed another difference: the usual draft that cleared top notes lagged, trapped by the bird’s quiet bulk against the gap. He rested the cork, its humble pitted surface shining with residue, and reached for the balance scale.
A pipette travelled through diluted neroli; a column of liquid rose until an air bubble swelled, causing a small frustration that rattled the thin glass. A light tap corrected the flow, one drop ticking onto paper; the pigeon answered with a shuffle, feathers lifting like soft sails. Griffon exhaled into his sleeve to reset his nose, and the heart note blossomed—green, floral, slower than expected. Again the pigeon bobbed, tilting nearer, as though the unseen current brushed its down. A second measure drew rose geranium; the pointer searched, then hovered at neat reconciliation.
Pattern gathered: each richer layer brought the bird closer, wings creeping open when sandalwood edged from an older vial. Griffon half raised another strip, halted, lowered it, unsure whether his attention simply followed the scent’s slower climb or the bird’s subtle shifts. He cleared the bulb, filled it with vanilla-tinged base, and carried the drop toward the window. He noticed the bird stayed outside, yet every stronger note drew its body forward along the sill. Finally, he nudged the sash wider, allowing the denser base plume to pour outward toward the watching bird. With a quick beat, the pigeon rose, circled once in compact grace, then settled almost inside. Griffon set the pipette aside, wiped his hands on linen, and stepped toward the corridor. “Back soon,” he said, though the bird offered neither answer nor retreat.
The pipette lay across the marble, a faint thread of pale gold clinging to its tip while the balance beam remained level, pointer still. On the sill, one grey feather rocked in the moving air, touching the paper strip whose darkened edge bled scent into the room long after footsteps faded.
