English 원문
The wet metal railing cooled Thalia's fingertips. She rested a tin bucket beside it, the rim pressing into damp wood. Inside the bucket, leafy seaweed drifted in a pool of brackish water. When she stepped back, the base teetered, but it stayed upright. A gull screeched above, then flapped away toward the masts.
Several paces behind, Katia rolled a narrow handcart along the planks. Each wheel clicked at the gaps and shook the stacked baskets of bright fruit. A soft, yummy aroma escaped every wobble, mixing pineapple, melon, and citrus. Around them, the harbor spread like a working wonderland. Nets dried on hooks, ropes hung from beams, and sunlight glittered on gentle waves. Warm tar scent mixed with the faint clang of distant buoys. Katia slowed near Thalia, yet she kept her own steady rhythm. The two tasks moved side by side; neither woman spoke.
A loose board dipped under Katia’s wheel and jerked the cart sideways. The sudden tilt bumped Thalia’s bucket against the railing. Cold water sloshed over the rim. The bucket spun once, then toppled toward the edge. At the same moment, the top basket slid, its lid popping open. Oranges rolled downhill over the lumpy boards. They tapped the bucket’s metal wall and stopped it just short of the drop. Both women lunged forward, their knees bending hard for balance. Thalia caught the bucket’s handle; Katia trapped the runaway basket with her boot. They laughed, the sound sharp against the creak of rigging. "Nice catch," Katia said, her voice bright above the gulls circling overhead. A seagull swooped low, pecked an orange, and carried it off. Thalia let the bucket settle on the safer, wider section of deck. After a breath, her gaze drifted to her canvas duffel. The zipper glinted in the sun. She knelt and tugged it open, curious about a dry cloth inside.
