Rain ticked on the metal roof of the shelter.

Cars hissed along the wide, wet road. Orla held a tray with a batch of seedlings. Today was planting day at school, and she carried beans. Cool air moved through the open shelter.

Dean stood beside her with a paper bag. Dean said, "Is that our bus coming now?" Orla said, "It stops at this shelter, I think." Orla hugged the tray close and reached for her umbrella. The catch stuck, so she tugged hard with one hand. Her elbow bumped her pocket, and her bus pass dropped.

Dean shuffled left to grab it from the puddle. His shoe tapped the tray edge, and two pots tipped. Dry soil sprinkled onto the floor and slid toward drains. A bus passed fast, and its tires pushed up water. The paper bag sagged, and one pot rolled away.

Orla stopped opening the umbrella and set the tray down. She picked up the pots first, then opened the umbrella. She leaned the handle against the bench and kept it steady. Then she lifted the tray and wiped her pass. "All set?" Dean said, brushing water from his sleeve. The next bus pulled in with lights on and doors wide. Orla raised the tray and stepped through the doorway.
