I hunch close and twirl. The cool metal fork turns. Twisting meets slick noodles. The prongs press a soft mushroom. A round corn kernel bumps a tine. It pops off and rolls back. Food stays on the plate. Multiple noodles twist and slide. A number of kernels sit near sauce. My eyes pass the cheese bowl. Grated cheese looks gritty and pale on top. A napkin box sits behind it. A lucky clover picture is on it. I lean sideways to peek. The grown-up twirls noodles too. A short tube pasta rests there.

I drift back the same way. At the plate, I spot that tube. A tiny cheese crumb sits inside. I angle back past the bowl. One coarse grain dots the rim. A mild, milky smell stays close. I sit up straight again. Sauce beads in the curved plate. "Steam curls up," the grown-up says. The grown-up stands and walks to the sink.
