English 원문
“The leaves keep slipping over the edge.”
Rafe planted both palms on the familiar brown arcs and swept the loose ring inward across the granite. A green snap rode the air from their bruised skins, and the dry whisper on stone stayed high. He worked in meticulous circles, easing pressure until the leaf pile turned slick and sweeter against his palms. Paloma stood at the oxidation room doorway, stopwatch ready, while warm hay and faint flower drifted from the shed. Far below, the tea master tended the firing pan with steady wrists, keeping a safe hush over the heat. The stone stayed morning-cool, so his hands slowed, and the grassy edge kept more bite than he expected. He hoped a longer sweep would loosen the cells without crushing, and he leaned forward to tighten his circles.
A sudden gust rose through the withering shed and flipped a folded brochure off the bench toward the racks. The paper skittered uphill, then snagged on a thorny bramble beside the handrail at the stone steps. Rafe jogged down, trapped it with his shoe, and slid it under a basket so no tray caught it. Dusty hay and sun-warmed bamboo met his tongue, and the thirsty trays near the top drank air faster. He rinsed at the basin, rubbed his aproned hands clean, and climbed back to the granite with brisk steps. The leaf pile sent up a copper-apple note, and the colour leaned toward olive under the steady lamp.
He adjusted to lighter strokes, letting juice coat the leaves, and shaped a smaller ring to carry downhill. Paloma lifted the stopwatch, and their quick steps shortened the walk, while a copper sweetness thickened at their tongues. At the doorway, warm humidity held the air, and the rolled stack gave off malt, fruit peel, and faint cocoa. Back at the granite, the same table read new; the dry scratch had fallen to a wet, low whisper. When his hands lifted, green smears striped his apron, and faint arcs of tea juice stained the granite. Two brown ovals, thumb-sized and glossy at first, clung where his careful grip had pressed.
