English 원문
The magnetic chime gave its two notes as the automatic door parted, and dew on the floor mat caught the fluorescent wash in a thin shine.
Flora’s sleeve brushed Sam’s shoulder while they stepped inside the glass-fronted box, its even ceiling lamps holding steady against the grey-blue softening outside.
Serenity gathered in the constant light and the paddle-churn hush from the slush drums, a pale hum that pressed the aisles into one calm plane.
Near the counter, a bound bundle of fresh newspapers sat with its top sheet turned away, while the locked display’s glass returned a narrow striped reflection.
Sam angled toward the chilled cases, wrist skimming the cool edge of the handle before the door slid, and a low bank of cold air sank to skin.
The first exposure stung at the thin bones near the thumb, so the hand paused, then narrowed the opening, and reached from the hinge side rather than the middle.
Bottles waited in vertical columns, and one near the front sat slick with condensation, beading fast enough to darken its shelf with a small damp oval.
The grip slid; a tiny complication clicked into place when the bottle rocked without tipping forward, so Sam pinched higher and lifted it free with the sleeve’s hem.
Across the aisle, the steam-warmed case carried low bulbs and damp heat, while a ventilation installation above it thinned the visible cloud riding the glass.
Flora stood beside the counter and tapped the microwave’s panel, slid in a sealed package, and watched the film tense as vapor pushed outward under the hum.
“You’ve got the cold,” she said, not quite whispering, and Sam answered with a short nod that made the bottle blink reflections from the fluorescent grid.
The ding arrived bright as a bell, and Flora cupped the warm parcel in a napkin, its corner fogging a faint oval where it touched the case.
At the checkout, the scanner’s red line hissed across barcodes, and the thermal printer zipped a small coil while coins made a quick bright slide on the counter.
The cashier lifted a thin plastic bag and twisted the handles once, setting bottle and parcel side by side so their temperatures rode together without bruising each other.
Sam slipped the wrist through the loop and flinched as cold and warmth announced themselves at the same instant through the thin plastic, the two charges balancing there.
The lights flickered once, a soft dip and return that trimmed every reflection thinner for a heartbeat, and Sam steadied the bag by changing pace and tilting the elbow inward.
The door’s two notes reversed on their way out, and the mat deepened in tone under new wet footprints that pressed into the earlier shine.
Dawn had shouldered higher along the street, the square of store-light now shorter on the pavement, and steam from Flora’s parcel drifted as a slender ribbon past Sam’s knuckles.
“Switch?” she asked, lifting an empty hand, and Sam weighed the loops for a beat, then kept them, his steps finding a measured rhythm between the cold and the heat.
At the corner, streetlamps still glowed against the pale sky, and the bag’s two temperatures held their places against one wrist while the fluorescent box hummed on behind the glass.
