Helen reached the small park just after lunch, carrying a string made of recycled paper. The craft club has planned an autumn decoration, and she has hoped to gather natural colors before the afternoon meeting. Wet leaves stick to her shoes while a light wind pushes them aside. On the checklist inside her head, only three things remain: a red leaf, a round acorn, and a pale mushroom. A robin nest swings gently above her head, and it is held by thin twigs. The leaf lies easily beside a bench. The wind helps by rolling it toward her boot. However, the acorn still hides on high branches, and the mushroom may be resting under soft moss. Meanwhile, gray clouds move across the sky; the bus that brings her back to school leaves in thirty minutes.

She steps onto a narrow path that curves behind the playground. A squirrel jumps overhead, landing on a low branch where a nearly ripe acorn hangs. The animal shakes the twig; the nut drops but rolls straight into a puddle. While she bends to pick it up, her foot slides, and she nearly falls. At that moment an unexpected sight fills the quiet space: several children who have practised a street routine gather in a circle, their sneakers tapping in a quick dance. The vibration lifts a layer of leaves, revealing a small mushroom close to her heel. Laughing at the coincidence, she pockets both finds. When the bus doors open, her bag rests on her lap, and the new crown of leaves, acorn, and mushroom stays still inside.

午餐過後不久，海倫帶著一條再生紙做的細繩走進小公園。手工社已經計畫好製作秋季裝飾，她一直希望在下午集合前收集大自然的顏色。濕葉巴在鞋底，微風把它們輕輕推開。她腦海中的清單只剩三樣：一片紅葉、一顆圓橡實和一朵淡色蘑菇。一個知更鳥巢在頭頂搖晃，細枝把它穩穩托住。紅葉容易地躺在長椅旁，風把葉子滾到她的靴尖。然而，橡實還藏在高枝上，蘑菇也可能躲在軟苔下。此時灰雲移過天空，載她回學校的公車三十分鐘後發車。

她踏上遊樂場後方蜿蜒的小徑。一隻松鼠躍過頭頂，落在低枝上，一顆快成熟的橡實懸在旁邊。松鼠搖動細枝，果實落下卻一路滾進水窪。她彎身想撿，腳底打滑，差點摔倒。就在這時，靜靜的空間出現意外畫面：幾個練過街舞的孩子圍成圈，球鞋踏出輕快舞步。震動掀開一層落葉，一朵小蘑菇顯現在她腳跟旁。她笑著把兩件收穫放入口袋。公車車門打開時，背包安穩地放在膝上，裝飾用的葉子、橡實與蘑菇靜靜待在裡面。
