Ivan walks along the path. The sun is warm. He finds a small window. The glass looks thick and dusty. Dust hides the room beyond. He rises on his toes. Clear space appears near one corner. He looks through that spot. Two children talk beside a thick book. The window is quiet again.

Ivan walks to a fence gap. Wood boards stand rough and gray. He bends and peers inside. A small earthworm moves across soil. Rain drops sit on leaves. Ivan waits until it passes. The worm slips into dark ground. He steps toward an old tree. A round hole breaks the trunk. He places his eye to it. Deep brown fills the space. Suddenly, an owl eye opens. The bright circle looks back. Ivan holds breath and stays still. The silent eye stays inside. Ivan steps away very slowly. Behind the tree, the forest stays quiet.
