Olive pressed through the rotating entrance door, shoulders brushing the cool frame while her steps adjusted to the dim, shifting tunnel. She aimed for the low bench facing the giant reef tank; the feeding show clock already glowed yellow near the ceiling. Hugo drifted beside her, knees slightly bent to keep balance on the gently sloping floor. Between their path and the bench, a tour group paused, bags knocking against each other like loose furniture on wheels. Olive shifted weight to her right foot, attempted a sidestep, yet a stroller blocked the gap and forced another halt. The curved floor had been scrubbed earlier for annual spring cleaning, leaving a slickness that made quick dashes risky.

Hugo tapped her elbow, then eased forward, weaving through elbows and backpacks with short, gliding steps that barely disturbed anyone. Olive followed, arms held close for balance, but the tour leader lifted an umbrella sign and swung the group sideways again. The bench drifted farther from reach as fresh visitors streamed out of the touch pool corridor. Olive paused, calves tightening, and pointed toward a narrow maintenance lane running along the glass. Hugo crouched, fingers brushing the damp floor for stability, then guided her into that tighter space. Midway through the squeeze, a hidden speaker crackled and the feeding music startled a sleepy ray, slapping its fin against the pane. Water shuddered, sending a cold vibration through the glass and up Olive's forearms.

She lost balance, heel sliding, yet Hugo caught her sleeve and anchored both of them against the wall. That accidental teamwork left enough space for the bench at last, so they dropped onto the polished seat together. A distant concession cart rattled past, carrying buckets of fish and a broom, its crew focused on the animals’ well-being. Their combined weight triggered a hidden caster, and the entire bench rolled several centimeters, exposing a narrow drain they never knew existed. Water from the earlier splash trickled into that gap and kept streaming beneath the floor panels. Olive and Hugo leaned away, letting the bench return, then rose to hurry toward the feeding show now echoing through the hall. Behind them, the loose bench rocked gently, and bubbles drifted upward beside the glass tunnel arch.
